On my 99 Adventurer DP, the gas springs (shocks) that open and hold the bin doors are weak so the doors won't stay up. I need to use a broom to keep them up while I work in the bins. About 2 years ago, I replaced some of the springs (shocks) but they are again not strong enough to hold the doors up. It appears that the shocks used in the 99 are very short and don't offer much leverage so they get a lot of stress and wear out quickly. Perhaps a design flaw.
Today, I was looking at a newer Adventurer. It used longer springs and only 1, not 2 per door. Seems like I could modify my doors to use longer springs and gain more leverage.
Does anybody have any experience with solving this problem?? Or should I just order the OEM shocks and live with the current design. Thoughts??

These struts come in different lengths & weights, I put longer & heavier ones one & now they open & close better than new.

Thanks Fred.......did you move the existing bottom brackets down and drill new holes for the longer struts?? Any pitfalls to avoid??

Dan,
Before remounting, go to Camping World and pick up some 'stronger' shocks. They're listed by weight support. You could pick up the heaviest one they have and try it (same length) first before remounting.
Try it on one compartment door to see if this fixes your problem.
They are easy to change, and not too expensive.
