This is just an FYI for someone in the future. Rolling along on our first long distance run in the 35U (Ford V10) and when it downshifted for a hill we had a loud "POW"
and then lound exhaust noise. Instruments were all fine and we were rolling fine so kept going to a rest area. There a chap in an Itasca opined that I had blown a "doughnut" where the exhaust attaches to the manifold. Went on for an hour or so (NOISY) and stayed in a CG. They told me of a Firestone place that would look at it. They also thought donut but were afraid to tackle it since they didn't have the right tools.
Since instruments were still fine and things smooth (but noisy) went for another 3 hours to our destination. Friend knew of a place that worked on trucks. They came out and in a matter of minutes noticed that the O2 sensor was dangling...still plugged in electrically but blown out of the socket. From the threads on it, they think that it had been that way from the factory (coach only had 10,500 miles on it). They put a new one on and all is very quiet now. I think it was leaking a little all along cause it is much quieter than ever. Mystery to them is why I did not get a check engine light after the POW and the 4+ hours of driving. I'm curious if our mileage improves.
