How do you get to the cords in the shades to repair them?

I replace the cords in my stick house blinds - that required me to remove the shade from the window and if I remember correctly the metal box which holds everything had a couple of tabs on the end which pulled up allowing you to swing a to cover open exposing the cords - probably a little difference with each type of shade.

There are a few outfits that sell parts for blinds online - might find instructions there.

DW just repaired a 4 cord day/night shade in our MH last Sunday. I got the parts and instructional video from this website:RV Shade and Blind Repair

Job took about 2 hours or so. I wash washing the MH and didn't pay much attention.

DW is patient and reads directions that's why she did the job.

There is trick to removing the blind .... there is a philips deck screw on both ends ... remove those ...

There is a clip in the middle that needs to be "opened" by inserting a screwdrive or putty knife between the metal housing at the top and one side of the clip ...

Can you get to these screws without taking the valence off?

Use an electric screwdriver with a long phillips head bit 6-8 inches long. You will need a flashlight or a screwdriver with a light, remove the srews first at each end of the shade. It probably will be easier to let the shade down it will give you more room to work in. The clip is usualy in the center of the shade push up on the short end of the clip with your thumb and the shade should release(one end of the clip wraps around the shade frame the shade will fall out of that side once the clip is released. Its also easier to open the window and the screen if possible for more room on one side.

fixmyblinds.com is a good site to order the materials needed. Their instructions for each type of blind you have is very informative. You can specify what color and size dia. of cord you need, springs, etc. I have saved a bundle by diy.

No clips on mine, just a screw on each end that you could find only with the shade pulled down.

Yes, you remove the shade w/o removing the valence/lambriquin. In fact, on mine, you MUST remove the shade first.

I had my first broken one repaired at a home blinds/shades place for apx $35. I eventually replaced them all with MCD shades.

Finally got our broken shade restrung

Had to get the cord at Hancocks Fabric. The cord was a little larger in diameter but worked ok. In fact it was heavy enough to push through the holes without the use of a needle or wire

I know the next one will be much easier now. One of the hardest part was getting the shade back up under the valence. Thanks for one of the tips of doing it from outside.

Shade is now working great.
