I just replaced my vinyl laminated patio awning. The original one, nearly eight years old, was getting to be in terrible shape, and during the last year it started delaminating and forming bubbles that got quite large . . . when they filled with water from fabric leakage above! Wanting to hold off a little longer before replacement, I just popped them from the underside with an awl, sometimes in two or three places at the low point so they would drain. Those holes seemed to close up on their own without causing any additional distress on the fabric. In fact, relieving the fabric of the weight of the water allowed easier awning retraction and prevented further bubble enlargement due to the weight. If your fabric is relatively new, go to your dealer or the manufacturer. If several years old, delamination (bubbles) is a sure sign that you are in for new awning fabric in the coming months.
