Calling all 05 Journey 39K Owners with 255 Mich's

Many of us are are looking at replacing tires this season due to the age of our tires regardless of tread wear. I am very interested to learn about the use and condition of your Michelin 255/80R22.5 LRG XRV tires.

For owners with the 39K 255/80R22.5 LRG XRV tires.
How many miles are on your tires?
Have you recently had them inspected and what did you find?
Are you or have you already replaced them?
What have you or will you replace them with?
What tire pressures do you run with?

Lots of questions but I think it will be interesting to see what owners of this specific 39K floor plan and tires have to say.

I bought my 2005 Journey 39K in October 09. It had 19,000 miles with Michelin tires. The side walls were cracked. I replaced them with Toyo's size 265/75 R 22.5 and have had no problems. I weighed my motorhome and checked their site and run 90 psi in the tires.

we own a 2004 39W Journey ...

we replaced the tires in July of 2009 ... 70,000 miles ... no serious sidewall cracks ... the manufacture date of the original tires was the last week of 2003 ... the tires were inflated to 92 # ...

we replaced with Michelin XRV ...

We don't have a DP but we just replaced all the rubber on our 39' 38R Suncruiser. They were just about worn out with 71,000+ miles. The wear indicators were not quite visible, but now I feel better again about driving in wet weather. I could find no sidewall cracks -because we kept those tires goin' round and round. Also I am sure the 303 Protectant I used the last 5 years helped.

Oh, yes! Replace them with Michelin XRV's again.

We own a 2004 Journey 39W exactly like "Ernie", above. I replaced the 255/80-22.5 Michelin XRV's in March of 2009 (one year ago). They had 45,000 miles with great tread remaining and no failures. The build date for these original tires was the 39th week of 2003. The fronts had circumferential cracks about 2 inches long and fingernail tip deep most of the way around the tires. Although, we live in Arizona all year long, the coach is stored under cover with no direct sunlight on it, just 110 plus heat. The rears had some cracking but were not as bad as the fronts.

I replaced all six with the same 255/80-22.5 XRV Michelins. I run the fronts between 100 and 105 psi, and the rears between 95 and 100 psi. These pressures match the maximum axle ratings, front and rear.

I did consider G70 Goodyears, but decided to stick with the OEM Michelins--availability was the driver.

I would believe all you 2005 owners are due for new rubber this year. Good luck.

I have a 2004 36G Meridian with 255/80/22.5 tires and looking to replace them this spring. The tires have 43,000 miles, I've kept them covered here in northern Oklahoma, run 90 lbs in front and 95 lbs in the rear, starting to see some small cracks around the numbers on the sidewalls, and a couple tires with fine circumferential cracks. Am considering going to 275/70/22.5 Michelins but can't find out if the ride will suffer even being able to run lower air pressure by 10-15 lbs per tire.

I have been told to be careful in going with larger tire at lower pressures. Your rear duals can kiss.

I have a 2005 Journey with just over 17K miles. As may be expected, coach came equipped with Michelin XRV tires. Sidewalls are showing some signs of cracking but not real bad at this point however, I am replacing because the dates on the tires show the 8th & 9th week of '04. It's time. Have been looking at Goodyear, just to try something different but in my area there are not a lot of options to get this tire. I may go looking for Michelin's just to see how convenient they are but I can only buy what is available in my area (Baltimore, MD) so we'll see what we see.

I think I am going to stick with the XRV myself. I think they are very good tires as long as you inflate them properly.

I have an 05 39K with 34,000 miles and original Michelin tires with mfg date of 04. They show no cracks or wear but will be replaced at end of this year. Based on weight table, pressure is 105 lbs in front and 100 lbs in rear tires.

I have the 39W floor plan and the original tires were 255/80's. They had a date code of 2002 and I just replaced them with Mich. XZA2 Energy 275/70's. There was plenty of dual rear spacing for the bigger tires. The ride is very smooth on the new tires. I run about 92 lbs. on the new tires and ran about 100 lbs on the the old ones. These pressures are based on the weight chart for past and present tires. There wasn't that much difference in price betwee the 255's and the 275's but the 255's were almost loaded to the max rating. The 275's have plenty of margin thus the lower tire pressure.
