Since we're suppose to change our air filter on the Cat C-7 engines installed in the Freightliner XC chassis every 3 years, what brand, part number, price and source are most of you using? Do different brands of filters have better elements and hold up better than others? Is this one of those situations where you get what you pay for? Did a search on the Forum for air filters buy didn't find that much information.

I have been at this same thing for hours. i google and google. My manual has the part number, but im having a hard time finding it. I have a 3126 motor, so i think it is similar to your C7

My ’05 Journey with C7 takes this filter.
I’ve used three different brands (the NAPA, FAR, and CarQuest) and they looked identical. The cheapest was CarQuest, although I can’t remember the price.

Air Cleaner Part #’s
FAR 114880 003
Baldwin # PA3493
Donaldson P537454
NAPA 6748
Car Quest 88748

Personally I wouldn't use anything but what the MH manufacturer put in the rig. Avoids any hassle if there's a problem under warranty. Ours is a Farr-Ecolite so I just look for the it on the web.

Maybe a call to Freightliner would get the number of what they origanilly installed. RVchassisparts has the FAR listed under a separate no. then states its the same as the FAR no. Don't know for sure.

Both of my Journeys (2000, and 2005) came to me with the FAR 114880 003 installed. Although I bought the MH's used I don't think they had been changed.

Like oil, I think it is more important that they be changed regularly than to worry about the brand. If all of these filters were sitting in front of me I couldn't tell the difference. From the box and plastic inner bag they came in to the thin coat of black paint, etc...

It's my opinion they were all manufactured in the same place.

FAR 114880 3........bought it yesterday from Florida Detroit Diesel in Ft Pierce for $69.27 plus tax.

Also....they are an Allison shop...if you need Transynd it is on sale there until the end of February for $34/gal...(usually $50)...just mention the Tampa RV show to get the special price.

Happy Motoring!

Jim
