For those of you that have the zerk on the fan hub how often do you grease it in terms of time and mileage..? I have been using 2 squirts on my grease gun every time I do it.
thanks RKL

I do it once per year when I clean the radiator/CAC. Also lube the Pac Brake. That is considering I am only putting 5,000 - 6,000 miles per year on the coach....work keeps getting in the way of RVing

When you lube the Fan/water pump, Do you use the same grease/gun that you use for the chassic. OR do you have a special gun with Anti water grease in it ??? Just courious; Life is good

Once a year with the same grease gun as the chassis. Bought it in 2006 and when I first greased the fan hub, no evidence of it ever being greased. Mileage doesn't matter.
Richard
Forgot to mention, 74,000 on the engine.

I have to use a smaller hand held grease gun with the smaller end on it to fit in between the cyl. head and pulley.
I had mine done once at a RV center and the mech. used a normal sized grease gun, however he went to his tool box and replaced the tip on the gun with one he had ground off a flat spot on it. He said he couldnt get the other one in such a small space.
I lube it once a year, 2-3 pumps.

In the 50 and 60s there were a lot of cars that had the grease fittings on the waterpump They were of course 20 years old so thet put them in the 1920s to 30 years , I worked at a service station. If the owner ever cought any one lubing a waterpump with chasses grease, You got your check right there;; Chasses grease breaks down if water contacts it; That is why they have/make waterpump grease; Ask a man that rebuilds waterpumps, About grease; Tell him it's ok to use regular grease, Be ready to run..

You are correct, actually we are lubing a pulley that the fan belt runs on that drives the pump.
I have an old 30 model A Ford in my garage with the zerk on it you describe and yes its a different grease, I actually pour some water soluable oil in the old girls radiater to help her out a little.
