Caution-2016 38Q Control Panel Glass door

Just suggesting a bit of caution around the control panel glass door in the hallway of the 2016 38Q. Ours has cracked and been damaged on 2 separate occasions. The first time was replaced under warranty right after we got it.

A couple of weeks ago the DW was working in the hallway and bumped the door and its lower hinge shattered the surrounding glass. Thankfully she was not injured. Its so very easy to bump or catch the door- especially if its left opened inadvertently.

I went ahead and removed the upper hinge connection and took the door off. As I cautiously set it inside the house on the floor the bottom shattered again. That door is a scary and potentially dangerous piece of hardware in that location. I wish I had a dime for every time I walked off and accidentally forgot to close the panel, leaving it as a hazard for the next passerby.

WBGO Parts advised the glass door is no longer stocked or available-- they suggested several RV salvage yards. I am not going to go that route as I don't feel good about glass being at that location given our history with it. Right now the panel remains without a cover--- really not sure why it needs one other than to just doll up the motorhome? I'm going to either leave it off all together, replace it with a piece of Plexiglas, or a nice A faced plywood cabinet door that's properly finished. I am leaning towards leaving it off.

Just passing along in case you have a similar set up, be careful. Maybe you've had your break already also?

Joe

They make various thicknesses of clear plastic panels. And they make various stengths and sizes of automatic door closing mechanisms. If you want to have that dolled up look if and when you sell, maybe research that now so you'll have an avenue to replace it later if needed.
