Chassis Battery Disconnect

I noticed that the 2009 Winne DPs have a 'Disconnect Solenoid' with a switch near the entry door. Perusal of previous years' diagrams indicate a manual switch for the same purpose on the years 2006-2008.

After studying the schematics for the 2009, I concluded that by purchasing the solenoid, switch and lockout relay from Winne, I could retro-fit one of these on my MH using the same wiring scheme. This would satisfy the desire to prevent parasitic discharge of the chassis batteries from long periods of parking unused.

Any comments or experiences?

I don't see why it should not work.. Just be sure that you hook he control switch up the the BATTERY side of the solenoid and fuse it.

There isn't any truly bullet proof method of maintaining batteries while the coach is parked IMO. If you disconnect batteries then they don't get any charge by definition, and you may find you still have parasitic drains. If you charge them, you need a really good 3 stage charger that will float them so as not to lose water, and I don't know of any charger that comes built in to a coach that qualifies (I've got a Xantrex RS2000 and I can hear the batteries off gassing while in float charge mode, and I need to add water every 3-5 weeks). The BatteryMINDer 12248 charging truly disconnected batteries would be a pretty good stab at worry free battery storage IMO.

I have also looked at installing a disconnect for the two 12VDC chassis batteries. But I came to the same conclussion that EngineerMike did. There was no real way of defeating the parasitic loads because the various computers should not be disconnected. So rather then worry about trying to figure out the wiring to install a disconnect switch I stay pluged in and let the three stage charger do its thing. But I realize that not everyone has power available where they store and in that case I think you will always have to some degree discharged battery issues. Others may disagree, but that has been my experience.
