We're considering selling our Jeep and buying a 4 WD Chevy Avalanche to tow. I know it's rated for flat towing. I'm wondering if any of you gentlemen have towed an Avalanche? Any comments?

KIX: I tow the Colorado crew cab, 4X4, automatic trans. The truck tows great and when I'm not towing it I get good mileage about 21mpg around town. I picked the Colorado because it is about 1000lbs lighter than the Avalanche.
Good luck on you choice the Chevy dealers are ready to deal.

The Avalanche will tow just like the Silverado-Sierra pick-ups ..which is easy to hook up & go.
I loved the Avalanche as a daily commuter when I had it... Good luck & enjoy it!

Finhawk: Cause I want to.
Gary CA: I probably need to look at the colorado but I also have to be able to tow our boat sometimes too. And I like the 4 wheel disc brakes on the Avalanche.

KIX,
If I had my current MH when I had my Avalanche, it would be my toad. Unfortunately needed to downsize in order to get under 5000 lbs. Best vehicle I've ever owned.

Several of these in River Bend Resort, LaBelle, Fl. -- some were using these to bring their motor-cycles with them to Florida - tailgate open

Kix, Did Jeep finally make the Cherokee towable with 4 down? Last year when we were looking at Jeeps, we were told that only the Liberty was towable with 4 down and a stardard transmission. Otherwise we would need a dolly. Right now we have 2 options for what we want (Honda CRV and Saturn Vue) and the third would give us more leverage.

Not sure where you heard the GC was not towable, Jeanne, but 4WD drive versions are towable 4-down without mods and always have been. Ditto for the Liberty and nearly all other Jeeps with 4WD. The Grand Cherokee is a very popular toad.
If you really want to have a standard transmission toad, the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot with standard trannys are towable 4-down.
You might take a look at the Motorhome Magazine Dinght Towing Guide
