Clicking behind instrument panel and light switch gets very hot
I need help finding someone to take me seriously. After I crank up the motorhome, several seconds later all this random clicking starts. I turn on the headlights and the switch gets hot. I'm afraid to go on a 400 mile trip because I don't know if I have a real problem or not. Has anyone else had this problem? 2003 Winnebago sightseer.

The clicking is likely an automatic reset circuit breaker. About half an inch by one inch with two threaded studs for wiring connections typically. Have someone with good hearing and agility peek under the dash and track it down.
When the circuit shorts out, these open up to prevent the wiring from burning. As soon as the break cools, it switches back on again.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
I know that my headlight switch gets pretty warm, but don't know what is normal! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Have you tried the Winnebago Help No at 800-537-1885? They have been very helpful to me when I needed them.

Is this on a Ford chassis. I have had trouble in the past with older ford pickups. They used to use the back of the lightswitch as a terminal for about eight wires. If you have one of these, it would explain it. I had one melt completely on my one ford pickup.

Fast clicking or slow? If slow, probably the automatic breaker as described above. Fast clicking - "chattering relay", usually caused by low voltage causing the realy to drop out. When the circuit opens, the voltage recovers and the relay sets again, lather, rinse, repeat....
sometimes the headlight switch gets hot if you are dimming the dash lights. Try turning the switch to each end of it's travel to see if you can find a setting where the switch is cool. If relays control your headlights, then a short in the headlight wiring would cause both problems.

Concur that the dimmer-portion of the headlight switch can add to the heating problem. But given the age of your rig, it is time to replace the headlight switch (end of story).
As for the clicking, I'll add a new twist:
There is a chance that some of your AC/heat air-directional-control is accomplished via step motors. These are controlled with DC voltage...and close or open vanes for adjusting dash-air temperature or perhaps the direction of air (i.e., directed to your feet, your face, or defrost). This clicking implies something is about to fail, but there is no safety issue involved here.
So: Don't worry about the clicking, but do purchase and install a new light switch.

For your own peace of mind take it to the dealer and find out what's the problem. Fix it and be done with it .guessing it's this or that don't solve anything. Some times you get lucky and other times you just have more problems that could of been prevented.
