Converter/Charger

I suspect mine may be overcharging my house batts. Can I rmv the unit (Parallax Pwr Supply/Magnatek model 7445, 45 Amps) & have an auto parts store check it??.

House batts are only 9 mos old & are boiling over. Would a specific gravity check reveal the problem in this case?

I've already replaced the two new house batts once (boiling over), returned them at 3 mos old, & installed (the new) current ones, now 9 mos old. So this is the third set of house batts.

From many previous posts on this subject, I hear that this converter/charger may not perform well. Moreover, I have a separate inverter (300W), below my VCR on copilot side, so I cannot install a converter/charger/inverter unit without a bunch of rewiring (at which I'm dangerous).

The the most significant common demoninator here is the converter. I believe your converter charger management circuitry/chip has gone Koo-Koo...and unfortunately the entire converter need replacement. I have a 2006 model Suncruiser amd my converter lasted about 5 months but took out the house batts too. Fortunately all were under warranty.

I scrapped my Magnetek 2 years ago after having to add water every month, I replaced it with a 60 amp Progressive Dynamics with the "smart charger" which only supply a minute amount of current when the batts are fully charged, then it has a "Desulphurization" cycle which keeps the plates clean. I only add water 2x a year now.
