Countertop Edge at Stove Burning / Melting

After a recent 8k mile trip, I noticed the plastic edge of the formica countertop around the stove beginning to melt, probably due to larger than acceptable pans being used on the back two burners. I'm thinking about replacing the high-temp plastic with an aluminum channel around the edge of the countertop at the stove ... has anyone else experienced this issue, and if so, what was your remedy?

Melted Formica Edge - Solution

I suppose pictures would help (see attached). My solution was to remove the strip and retrofit with aluminum angle strips cut to fit in a seamless fashion at the rear.
