My wife and I just picked up our new (to us) 1999 Ultimate Freedom 40J. In examining the 1999 brochure on the rig, the specifications list as standard equipment under "Driver Convenience" items a "Courtesy Blink Switch. I have two questions on this:
  1. Is this the same type of device used by over the road truckers to thank someone for letting them know they have clearance to change lanes? If not, what is it?
  2. Whereintheheck is the damned thing? I have poured over the entire dash and surrounding instrument/control area and can find nothing with that discription. Help!

free, I don't know where the courtesy switch is and in my opinion, as a retired law officer, it is not a good thing. If you signal for somebody to pull back in line and theyget in an accident, you could get sued. It is also against the law to signal another motorist of a police car ahead by blinking your lights. It is called interfering with the duties of an officer.

All the more reason to do it. Now the law wants to stifle common courtesy. Is this a great country or what !!!

Judge, I think the point was missed here. As a trucker in a previous life, I always appreciated it when a fellow traveler let me know when I had enough clearance to pull back into a lane. I would reach over to the panel and give a coouple of flips to the toggle. This was our way of saying thank you. Even before I drove the big rigs over-the-road, I thought it was a common courtesy to give a flash to the trucker passing me to let him know when he was clear to pull back over into my lane. I'm not concerned with the headlights, just flashing the tails to say "thanks". In this day and age of forgetting common coourtesy, I personally think this is a good thing (imoho)

On my Freightliner the switch is located on the steering wheel. I use it often.
