Has anyone ever tried to change the heater coil on a 2000 Ultimate Advantage 40J, I have a small leak and I just plummed around it for now.

Not sure how similar the set up is between the UA and the Journey, but there are several threads related to R & R on the Journey heater core. I did mine a few years back and it is a job. I had to drop the lower front cap to get to the assembly for removal and replacing. My new core lasted exactly 3 years and sprung a leak. So, I bypassed it and we use the LP furnace if necessary. So far, haven't needed the dash heat enough for me to take on that job again.

We traveled last year around Christmas in some pretty cold weather and the LP furnace kept us cozy while underway.

If you plumbed around it, how did you defrost the windshield?

Well last winter we traveled in Nevada and Arizona anound the Colorado river so we didn't need to defrost, we use the floor furance as we have dual ones, so far so good just waned to have some dash heat looks like it's a difficult job, wanted to see if you could change from the inside.

I did ours on the Ultimate Advantege;; First.. We hit/drove over an alagator/Truck thread;; If you look at the heater/hoses design You have to scratch your head;; The hoses come down from the heater hang down under the coach were they are venerable to anything you might drive over; And the hose weight hanging on the heater will brake loose and cause the heater to leak;; Next step. Repair shop. It was some were near $2000.00 to getherdone;;After I could see straight again. I went to a steel yard picked up some steel made a bracket with 4 swivel wheels on it. Took the front lower cap off, It is much simpler then one would emagine.Then I took the core out it has 6/8 clips holding in place, Took it to AAAA Rad. in Redmond WA. The owner is sharp, He made me one up Of much heaver material. I put it back in built a clip to hold the hoses. OH I also put a Water heater under the bed. That we ture no while traveling It keeps the coach nice and warm.Life is good. If you have changed a tire on your car you can change the heater core;;
