Daytime running Lights

I am considering buying a 2004 Journey 36G and importing it to Canada. To do so I have to have daytime running lights which come on when ever the rig is started. Anyone know what's involved with this change?

My 2009 Journey 34Y already has them. Are you sure this coach doesn't?

Some manufactures install a relay to support DRLs but don't install the relay unless exported to Canada. If you don't have the extra relay the conversion is easy. Find the headlamp relay and wire the sense input to anythin that is powered only when the ignition is on.

I think you have to take your rig to Canadian tire. Also don't forget if you have a trade in you will get burned on the tax.

I am virtually certain the 04 Journey has factory DRLs. Mine DO NOT come on until parkeing brake is off and the transmission is in "D". Mine sometimes don't come on by themselves from a warm start, but if I turn the headlights on and back off they are good to go. I can tell if they are on from the seat if I am on low beam (no hi beam indicator) and have the driving lights on (drv lights switch pilot lamp is lit).

My 2004 Sightseer has them. I bet the Journey does also.

Depends on the chassis.... However the list goes like this

Some (GM / Workhorse) Put key in ignition, start engine.

Some (I'm not sure when Ford came out with DRL's) you plug in a device and/or add a fuse.

Some... Well.. I put DRL's on my last car. Six wires is all it took,, but I can no longer find the supplier.

It was the "See Me Daytime Running Light" system by Andrew N Lake enterprises (ANL enterprises) in Livoina, MI. Google did not find 'em either.

Our Georgetown does and I wish it didn't. If i want the damn lights on, there's a switch on the dash. I don't need some safety nitwit putting another system on a vehicle to do it if I don't.

They're only useful if most vehicles don't have them, then those that do stand out more easily. If every vehicle has them, their effectiveness is greatly diminished, IMO.

The first system I ever saw was on an early 1960's Volvo, and they should all be like that one. The headlights were connected in series if the other lights weren't on, so that there was a large area lit up, but it wasn't as bright as regular headlamps. They switched to the normal parallel hook-up when you turned the lights on at the switch.

The worst system I've come across was on GM vehicles. When you switched the ignition on, the headlights and panel lights came on, but not the tail lights or license plate lights. I once rented a Cavalier on a business trip. I arrived after dark, got in the car and when the lights came on, I assumed they all had. It wasn't until the following morning I saw a clear plastic placard on the instrument panel, with tiny white letters that you couldn't seee if the panel lights were on, explaining that the tail lights weren't included in the automatic system. I'd driven about 90 miles without tail lights!

My '04 Journey 36G does have DRLs. As AFCHAP said, parking brake must be off and transmission in gear. Skigramp, you may just have a defective relay or a loose wire...(oops, I mean your Journey may have loose wire)

I like the idea of daytime running lights as to many don't use their headlights until they cant see ahead of them. Its not easy to see a car passing on a dark rainy day when no headlight system is on.
Getting back on topic, I asked someone today about daytime running lights on the rig they bought in Florida. (they had them) but if not the dealer would have easily installed the relay.
