Yes. The whole idea of the bypass is to avoid pink stuffing the water heater.
Flush cold, then hot, until clear. Then un- bypass and flush hot until sputtering stops. Then it is safe to apply heat, whether gas or electric, to the water heater.
Yes! Agree with JMynes. Be sure to flush the pink stuff out before changing the bypass position; otherwise you will get some antifreeze into the hot water tank and it will foam for a long time on the hot side.
Hook it up to city water and flush away. Inevitably the pink stuff seems to find its way into the hot side even when keeping it on bypass. Just keep flushing the hot side (with the heater off) after flushing with the bypass valve on 'bypass'.

Personally don't ever use the pink stuff. Just do a complete system blowout 2X and then leave all of the faucets and drains in the open position.
As far as the pink stuff just use it pour into the P-traps and put some in the all san tanks and toilets. Extra care must be taken if yo have a washer installed or an ice maker. They have their own winterizing things that must be done.
