DHS Question

I, like many others here, have replaced their oem front TV with a new flat panel. I don't have any desire to set up a surround sound 5.1 system, but only want to have stereo sound from all of the DHS speakers. My model is an MTS-03, installed in an Itasca 2000 Suncruiser, 35U.

My replacement TV is a Samsung, 32". It has one "Audio Out" stereo jack. TV is set for "external speaker", dash switch is set to "House" and sound switch is set to "TV" I ran a stereo cable from the "Audio Out" jack to the "Stereo TV" input on the MTS amp, and get nothing. Interestingly, if I plug the left or right leg from the TV Audio Out jack into the "Mono TV" input on the MTS, I get mono sound to all of the speakers. As a side note, the 8 conductor wire harness connected to the MTS has 2 wires (one blue, one green), which are not connected to anything, and I can't figure out if I need to do something with these. Does anyone know how I can get the Stereo function to work on the MTS?

Incidentally, the CD player in the overhead cabinet does play stereo to all the speakers.

Also, I have seen some posts for the "wart", but have no idea where this is, or what it is for. Can someone explain this?

Thanks!

Bob

Here's a picture of the 'wart' (as I called it):

The bare ends of this were soldered to the speaker terminals inside the case of my original Sony TV. I removed it from there and and connected it to the speakers of my new flat panel TV (since it doesn't have variable analog audio out RCA jacks). The 'wart' provides a pair of female RCA jacks and the connectors from the sound system plug into them.

I'm not sure just what's inside the black cylinder, but it seems to work fine for me.

I did the same as cbeierl in my Journey. I was told the black barrel is a noise supressor. TV, sound and sat receiver all work off the sat remote or the tv remote if not using sat as before.

If you don't have your "wart" I think you could get one from Riverpark in IN. River Park, Inc. National Distributor of Mobile Audio Products
They are or were the supplier for Winnie.

I took the black cylinder a part and found that it contained some inductors. The black cylinder's sole purpose is to eliminate a high frequency sine wave from the audio circuit. The high frequency sine wave is typically created from the engine's alternator and is a result of how the MTS power and ground is wired to the chassis battery. Anyway, without the black cylinder you will hear a high frequency noise out of the MTS speakers only while the engine is running. In my case, this happened when I selected either Radio or TV.

Does your TV's audio out have variable volume control? Meaning that your TV's volume controls the signal level coming out of the stereo audio out? The MTS amp might require your TV input signal gain to be high enough to activate the amp? Try setting your TV's volume to max and see if that helps?
