Smile Diamond Shield Looks Awful

The diamond shield on my 2003 Journey is serverely cracked and has extensive darkened areas. I tried peeling it off but took hours to remove just a little. Could I use a hair dryer without damaging the clearcoat? Are there any. Other options?
Thanks for any help?

I had an 08 Allegro bus that I peeled, but it was a long slow finger cramping job. Of course some clear coat and paint went with it but I was glad to get rid of the junk. When we ordered the 2013 it was due to come without the Diamond Shield. But of course, it came through with the DS. Tiffin peeled it and repainted where necessary. It took 4 BIG guys about 45 minutes to peel the fresh DS with a lot of grunting and pulling. They used a heat gun VERY LIGHTLY to help it come off, and pulled about 160 degrees from where it was on the bus. In other words, almost parallel to the face it was glued to and over the unpeeled surface. They used xylene to get some residual glue off. Good luck

This has been discussed at length here on the forum, and I don't think there is a magic solution to getting DS off without damaging the paint... much less the clear coat.

When I took delivery of my new 40DP in 2007 they had installed the DS over some water spots. I had them remove and install another but not even the dealer could get off a new DS without having to repaint the front of the rig.

I think a hair dryer (probably not a heat gun) would be OK to use to give it a try but I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope that it'll come off without damage.

Best of luck.

Hi p00ches,
I took the DS off my coach and then had the front repainted. It will be pure luck if you get the DS off without messing up the paint. The paint shop wanted another $1K to paint the front if they had to take off the DS. This is why I took the DS off myself. If you think getting the DS off is hard, wait until you try to get off the glue. That is just as difficult.

The front was repainted with colors and clear coat only, no DS. I had a bra made for the coach. Once fooled and twice a fool. I will never use DS again. The bra has worked well for the last 15 months.
