I have a 1500 watt Zantrex inverter in my 2002 Journey...It was plugged in at the service shop ( without my surge protector inline) during Sunday night's terrible 8 hour lightning storm in Lakeland Fl. Went to pick up coach today and service mgr told me that coach was on 110v ac but none of my 110v outlets were working and the coach batteries were not showing a charge (11.5 v)
After trying all the normal resets and disconnects still no power at the outlets or battery charger. When ac was disconnected and inverter turned on, all outlets had ac power.
Electrical panel showed ac power coming in and looked normal.
We pulled the inverter out and there was a badly burned terminal and wire on the front board. service manager said to replace board if possible as it appeared that ac power was not being transferred to the breakers and outlets. electric shop had only 1 board and said that probably the other boards may be damaged..
Ended up buying new 2000 watt zantrex and installed it and all appears to be working, charger and outlets....no other electrical damage was found.
The question is did the lightning storm do this or was this a normal failure due to age and use....Also are my 3 coach batteries damaged? they appear to be taking a heavy amp charge at 13.8 volts Your input is appreciated....RKL
