IF the inverter is real close to the batteries, you might be able to go up to a 500-600 watt. But most likely you will have to double or triple the wire size. I would recommend a pure sine wave type, as you can get those for about the same price nowadays.
To give you some perspective, my 2000 w inverter has about 3 ft of wire that has 1/2 inch of copper wire. If it was 6 ft away it would need to be even bigger gauge wire.
