Disintgrating padding under dash vinyl

2005 Itasca Horizon, the padding under the dash vinyl has turned to a sticky glue like substance. Does anyone have knowledge of what it takes to remove the top dash panel, so it can be recovered.

I also have a 2005 Horizon and my dash is good. Do you have any idea what caused your problem? Have you talked to Winnebago about this problem? If this has happened before they should be able to give you advice.

I have a Horizon and have the same problem. I am not sure what the underlying cause is but another post regarding the same problem was created on an other Forum and it seems like it is a common failure.
I had a sailboat that had that problem as well with this and it seems to be an age or poor quality foam related issue. My sailboat developed the problem after 20+ years, so I would almost say poor quality foam in cae of our motor homes as it failed in about 6 years.

My '02 Horizon has the same problem, and I am thinking about removing the vinyl, the old deteriorated foam, and replacing. The foam can be bought in any number of places, including just about any fabric store. It's just that I'm not an upholsterer, but it might not be too bad a job.

I did see one motorhome, where the guy's wife just sewed a new, padded dash cover, cut to shape, and just layed it over top the old dash vinyl. It actually looked really good.

on edit: In case you didn't see it, smlranger did a really nice job of making a new dash cover. Here's a link to his thread:

Dash panel cover

We have an '02 Ultimate Freedom with a similar problem on the front panel of the dash near the A/C vent outlet.

Does anyone know how to remove the panel?

I inquired about that with the folks at Winnebago. They said the metal panel is attached by threaded studs with nuts that must be accessed from the front of the coach. I was able to locate one of those on my Journey by reaching up from the generator access door. The Winnebago fellow advised me that removal of that panel was 'difficult' so I decided to make a dash cover instead.
