Use to do welfare checks all the time. 99% of the time the person was out of town, in the hospital, had caller I.D. and just didn't want to talk to the person calling

Did even more 911 call checks.........those were usually a young child playing with the phone
Best one I ever had was a 911 call with no voice on the other end. Got to the house, two cars in the driveway, knocked on the door................no response but I could hear a child on the other side. Thinking it might have been left alone I entered the house (door unlocked) that little boys parents needed a new mattress..............one that wouldn't squeak so loud!
I announced myself loudly and after a few seconds Mom and Dad came out of the bedroom...........I don't know who was more red in the face
I will never forget that call, think of it when ever I drive past their house

The bad welfare checks are to a older person living alone. Hot summer day...........flies covering the door and windows..............not good

Well shoot Ret.LEO...you had me laughing out loud (at work) on the 1st part...and then not so much on the last part. Ugh.

I can't even imagine the things you've seen and had to deal with.

You know... we always tell military people "Thanks for your service", well, I would like to say the same thing to you and all the LEO's..."Thank you for what you do (did), and... there is NO WAY I'd want your job!"

I'm sure you met some good people occasionally, but I bet 9 out of 10 times, that's not the case.

Thanks for the laugh.

Yay!!! Glad I could help. We make a great team. Amazing what you can find out with the right tools.

I always considered it a privilege and honor to serve my County. I always kept in mind that I worked for the people, they pay their taxes, they paid my paycheck.
One thing our Sheriff was big on was motorist assist. Nobody in my County had to change their own flat tire along the highway. I carried a floor jack, couple of 2X10's, portable air pump and a 4 way. I got to where I would make a Indy pit crew jealous.

I would always keep a great (warped) sense of humor. People respond better to a smile than a stern cold face majority of the time. When needed though I was all business and made it clear.

My 1st day on the road (by myself) we had a guy rob a bank in a adjoining County and was heading our way. His family called earlier in the day that he was suicidal. I was set up off the road on a curve. The Sheriff pulled up to check on me and to bring water (98 degrees) Dan told me " You know Rick if you get him stopped you're probably going have to shoot him" I replied "That's a decision he'll make for me" Fortunately the guy hit the gravels and got into Iowa where they caught him.
I knew from day one I was in for a great adventure.

I still believe to this day that 99% of people are good but even good people can make a mistake.

Still miss it all everyday.

WOOHOO!!!!

Just got a call back from the Pierce County Peninsula Detachment's office (that's a mouth full!), Tiffany, and she said she did receive the information I left her yesterday and that she's given it to the sargent, and he has dispatched an officer to go out and check on Terry today!!!

Hopefully Terry will report back that all is well (and hopefully not be upset we were doing all this).

It's just that we care about her, and are secretly hoping she'll invite us ALL out to park on the easement.

My hat's off to you, sir! Yes, indeed, thank you for your service.

Also enjoyed the fun story about the 'mystery 911' call by the little kid.

TriMoot,
Great to know they will check on Terry today. If she is not there, I don't know what the next thing we could do, as talking with the neighbor probably won't be of any use.

I'm wondering if she ever took delivery of that Winnebago she was going to buy.

CaptBill, Yes, according to the folks at Johnson RV in Sandy, OR, she did pick up the RV on 7/16. I was able to get that much before the manager stepped in and put the kibosh on getting her info relayed to the sheriff's office.

I hope worse case, she's out camping and having a great time!

I KNOW! I'm worried about that too.

BUT..on the good side...we can now REALLY tick off HER neighbors! Let's just all show up and park in THEIR driveway!

BTW: Not only did the officer call, but just now the Sargent called to let all of us at the IRV2 forum know all is good. Now that's just COOL!
