Do I have a hydraulic problem?
Last summer a hydraulic fitting failed on the forward cylinder of the left slide out room. The room has two cylinders and a balance device to keep them in synch. I had the line replaced by what I believe to be a reputable shop, but the forward and rearward ends of the room don't arrive open nor closed at exactly the same time. It did open and close very closely before the line failure. I can't remember right now which end finishes travelling first but it's out an inch or so. I thought that after running the room in and out a bunch of times (like from last fall until now which is mid February) it would sort itself out. It's not a big deal from my limited prospective, but it's not right. Do I have a problem that can be fixed? Like bleeding or adjusting the synch cylinder, or should I learn to live with it and quit worrying?
Thanks a lot for any advice you folks may have
Stan

Have you tried reading the manual for the slide mechanism? Look online if you don't have one. I'd imagine it's not a difficult fix, if you don't want to tackle it a mobile tech or an RV shop should be able to sort it out for you. Leaving it not fully closed could allow water to enter the slide seal and cause far more damage than the cost of the slide mechanism repair.

The repair shop should have replace the line with the same size and length of line, if not, then you could expect to see the problems you are having.

Stan,
I recommend that you give Paul Maddox a call on his cell at 602-549-3638. He's a long time employee of HWH that has traveled the country attending rallies for HWH and is a member of this forum as "azpete". He's very knowledgeable on these systems and owned a Winnie like ours for many years.
I've gotten help several times from Paul and he has always nailed it. He's always prompt to answer or call you back when you leave a message. I see that azpete replied to your topic on sun dogs last month.
I had the same hydraulic line on my 2004 coach burst and it happened to Paul on his 2003 Winnie. He investigated why this same line breaks and found the heat build up from engine and tranny causes the fluid pressure to build up beyond the working pressure of the rubber line. They have a steel line replacement. As PJ noted above the total length of the replacement must be the same length as the original (around 10 ft). That seems excessively long but it matches the one to the rear cylinder which is further away. I'm thinking if your problem is the tech used too short of a line, all that needs to be done is to use a coupler and an additional piece of hose to get the correct length. Paul would have confirm this idea, but throw it out there to him.
By the way, the same problem exists in the Winnie diesel pushers but it affects the rear bedroom hydraulics as the engine heat soaks up in the rear bedroom. I suppose they have a steel line retrofit kit for that line too.
Good luck,
Bill

Hi Stan,
I had a fitting fail on the forward actuator on my 05 Adventurer. Was able to get it fixed on my own, but the job needs to finish up with a syncing procedure to make sure the rams travel together. See this link
http://www.irv2.com/forums/f101/hwh-...er-356113.html
If I can find the syncing procedure, I’ll try to post. I got the info off of HWH site.

Here are a few docs for reference. In the HWH hydraulic ram service manual refer to page ML16463/MP45.9435 for syncing procedure. When I did mine last summer, I talked to HWH tech on the phone and he said to omit step 12 (and 15), no longer required to do. Hope this info helps! It's a big job to do if not done right the first time. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for your super quick replies. I've got my work cut out now. I'll first measure the line(s) so I know what I've got and then call azpete for his help. By the way, the slide does go completely in and completely out, it just 'wiggles' a bit before it finishes moving.
I'm actually in Arizona for the next few weeks. Coolish weather but warmer but better than back home.
