My 2005 Itasca Meridian 12v system is giving me grief. I have a manual disconnect on my chasis battery. I performed maintenance on the batteries which included degreaser then hosed them off. I started the motor which ran briefly then stopped. I discovered that the disconnect had shorted out and partially melted the plastic portion. I removed the disconnect and restarted the engine which ran briefly then stopped. The 12v items powered by the chasis work, however, the remaining 12v system does not. I have checked every breaker I can find including the inverter, but still no power. I assume the engine stopping is the result of a computer that is not being powered to supply fuel, but can't understand how a short at the chasis battery would blow the house circuits. I will really appreciate any help from some of you brainy folks.

First question, what type degreaser did you use and did you dry everything before starting the engine?

Basic trouble shooting. Remove, inspect, clean, lube (WD-40, Lithium grease) ALL battery connections. If the problem persists, use a voltmeter or 12 volt test light to follow the circuit to wherever the voltage drops or stops. Don't forget the ground side also.
