Went out to the coach to prep it for our annual Florida trip and found our EMS (Energy Management System) indicated 50amps when we are plugged into 30amps.

Any suggestions on where to start my troubleshooting?

Thanks....

Ron, I've never had that problem, but I believe I've read on the forum that unplugging the display board for 30 seconds or so and plugging it back in will reset it and clear that problem. You probably can accomplish the same thing by just switching the coach batteries off and back on...

This is a pretty popular issues these days. Check out the recent thread and solution to thumbtack's problem at:

energy management system

worth reading first as it may be similar.

then, assuming your batteries are well-charged, I'd do the following first:

Find your AC to DC converter/charger. Probably under the lowest drawer of the cabinet for the stove top. Way in the back mounted to the floor. (that's where it is on my '07 38T.)

Unplug it from the 110VAC outlet and check the status of the EMS panel.

If it appears to be working fine, it might be the same problem I and others have had w/ the converter.

I have heard also of the displays going bad, and loose connections.

good luck

Also, ensure all your AC panel breakers are on. If I leave my water heater off and
plug into 50amp the EMS will show 30amp. Flip the breaker and it goes to 50amp.

Just a quick update. DancinCampers hit the nail on the head. I had the water heater breaker off. When I turned the breaker on, the EMS reset and it indicated we were on 30amps.

Thanks DancinCampers

Hmmm. Now, can anyone out there explain why???

Maybe a voltage drop caused by h/w heater element going ON?

(reminds me of an elec anomoly I had w/ an old '67 Chevelle I owned. Turn the 4 ways on, step on the brake, and the inside dome light flashes. Repeatable every time, but why??)

Curious to see if I can duplicate this on my 38T w/ the same parts.

I'm glad it worked.

My take is, the EMS monitors L1 and L2 to determine if power is 30 or 50 amp. L1 enters the EMS after the water heater breaker, L2 after the microwave breaker. I think the EMS gets confused if these breakers are not closed when it wakes up. The water heater breaker is usually the one folks turn off.

Thanks for posting folks...........this is good info to know.

The power system is great when all is working......but a bugger of a headache when something is out of the normal mode.
