The CarefreeColorado entry door awning on my ’03 Ultimate Advantage is acting up. We’ve had several days of rain so I’m hoping maybe it is just moisture …it failed early on due to motor housing being filled with water and dealer drilled a hole in the bottom of the housing. This morning It took two presses on the extend button to get it to go out, and now it does not respond (no click, no noise, nothing) when we try to retract it. Can’t tell for sure which model it is, but guess it doesn’t make much difference as I understand there is no manual retract on these things …just push it in and tie off the flapping fabric and/or remove it from the coach. Guess I'll have to get out my ladder and tinker with it...

Paul, ours failed just a few weeks ago. At first, it would just sit there and look at you. When I tried to move it with the hand crank, it would start and then bind up.

Finally, it broke free. Literally. The gearing sits inside a plastic housing and the plastic cracked causing the gear to bind and freeze. Once it broke all the way, the awning flew out.

I too, had to tie wrap it and take it down.

If yours is not making noise, be very careful tinkering with it. Hopefully, it's not a cracked housing like ours.

I thought it was only the Dometic Oasis electric awnings that were troublesome,,if mine stops again it comes off and a manual one goes on.

I got lucky ...I've heard of too many of these lately that had a dead motor. I removed the housing cover to get to the motor & wiring. The snap-to connector looked a little loose. I checked for power w/DW pressing button and found it was good. Put it back together and it worked. A Carefree tech has been very prompt this afternoon with email replies basically confirming that there is no manual roll-up for the electric models. He did send me a parts breakout that may come in handy in the future!! Nice it acted up today as this is the first day of sunshire here in Alabama in in about a week. Messing with it in the rain would not be fun...

Ours is the Dometic Oasis, but we didn't have any problems until last month. It's been on the coach for 8 years.

After looking at the plastic part that cracked (anchored the motor to the frame of the awning), getting a price from Dometic of $474!!!! to replace it (the plastic and the motor are one assembly), we decided to have a machine shop try to repair the plastic housing and motor.

If that doesn't work, I'm going to a manual awning also.

I commented to Paul on ours because the symptoms where the same. When we tried ours, it didn't move or make any noise. I only found the problem when I took it apart.
