When we open/close the front entry door on our coach, I hear metal scraping on metal. I finally isolated the sound to the little hinged “strap” that stops the door from opening too far … it is attached to the door frame, and hinges into the door. When opening/closing the door, the hinged strap is rubbing on the forward edge of the hole that it goes through into the door. It is entirely possible that the hinged strap has been bent, etc by the door trying to exceed it’s open limit. If there is any adjustment to the strap, I am guessing it would be the two screws that appear to attach the assembly to the door itself. However, with the screws loosened, I cannot seem to move the strap assembly away from the side it is scraping. (and it is too bloody cold even here in Alabama right now to stand there with the door open for very long!!!). Can anyone tell me IF there is a adjustment I can do for the hinged strap, and if so, HOW ??

Hello Paul,
I've had my door apart several months ago to make an adjustment to the limiting strap. I found that there is no adjustment. I was able to fit some rubber around the strap limit inside the door to prevent it from opening too far. I don't know if your door is made the same or not but to access it you will have to remove the plastic inner door panel. I suggest you wait until it gets warmer or drive to Key West.

Here's a thread over on rvforum.net with details and pictures of the door check mechanism used in the 2004-2007Vectra/Horizon models. Horizon Door Hinge I don't know if it the same as your Ultimate, but if it is there's no adjustment to be made--just replacement of the parts if they're bent or broken.

Mine does not seem to open too far at this point, but from everything I read at the link Chris provided, mine apparently does need replacement. Guess I'll add that to the project list for sometime after I find warm weather...

AFchap: About a year ago my door was making the metal on metal noise and it also seemed to open to far. Taking the panel off is very easy, just a dozen or so screws and then pull the black sheet plastic back to allow access to the door stop. Once the screws are removed from the cover panel be careful as the top part of the cover that goes around the window is very flexible and weak.... thus, be careful.

As previously stated, there are no adjustments. The door stop is basically a rubber bumper that slides on the flat steel bar. The rubber slides to the end of the bar and is stopped by pushing against a thin piece of metal held on the bar by a "roll pin".

On mine the metal to metal sound was coming from the rubber bumper sliding on the bar....so I used some WD_40 magic. The door opened to far because the thin flat piece of steel the rubber bumper pushes against was bent around the roll pin. I straighted the thin steel and beefed it up a little by adding another shim of steel about 0.095 thick. The lube and additional shim fixed it.
