We live in our coach full time and the majority of the time the rig is plugged into shore power. When we stop at dry camping locations, by conserving power, we can make the batteries last up to four days. Anyway, I clean and check the coach batteries about every 6 weeks, but I have never equalized them. The coach is coming up on two years old and I assume the batteries are a little older. How frequently should they be equalized? And, how frequently, if ever, do you folks actually equalize them?

I usually try to equalize our batteries 2-3 times a year. I believe the manufacturer suggests every 30-40 discharge cycles.

......and thanks for the reminder....going outside right now to start the equilizer

We will be junking the Interstate batteries that came on the coach and replacing them with Lifeline AGMs soon. No need to equalize AGM batteries. Our house batteries are three group 31 12V wired in parallel - I priced the AGM replacements at about $200 each at a local Batteries Plus.

Yes - these are very pricey but they will last much longer, no water to check or top off, can withstand deeper and more frequent discharges and they don't sulfate requiring equalization. On my boat I used gels and they were well worth the big bucks I paid for them (they were the monster 8Ds.)
