We've had our 2000 Winnebago for about a year now and I've always heard a bit of ticking when I've pressed hard on the gas pedal. Now when idling, I smell a hint of exhaust in the coach. Ours is the 6.8 V10. I've heard these are prone to cracked manifolds and suspect this is the culprit. Does anyone know the cost of replacing the cracked manifolds or am I just better off going to a Banks Power system? We don't know how long we will have this coach as we have it up for sale now but would like to repair the situation as cheaply as possible at this point.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Les,
There is a chance the problem is not as dire as you suspect. Two years ago, when the MH had about 68K miles on the odometer, we had a similar exhaust odor inside.
We happened to be in NW Washington and stopped in to see the guys at Brazels RV in Centralia. They found the trouble was the "donut" seal at the exhaust manifold/tailpipe connection was worn out. A relatively easy fix.

Relative easy you say... I used to have a car that burned those puppies out in next to nothing flat, 10 minutes, sitting on the ground (no jack or hoist) is about all it took me to replace it.. One wrench too.

Yes, I'd say "relative easy" is an understatement.. On the big block RV engines.. About the same amount of work.

(I finally custom made a hybrid seal that worked for many hundreds of miles, in fact it lasted till the exhaust wore out.. Then I had to make another one)
