We just bought a 2001 Winnebago Journey 36GD 41,000 miles. Is it worth our while to buy an extended warranty on the rig? Our thought is we would only buy a drive train "Show Stopper" warranty and go for a big deductible. Say $500.00 or more. If the tranny goes on the way to Florida we are stopped. The furnace or A/C is not a stopper. I can fix most anything, but a 800 pound Cat engine is not something I want to start on.

Have heard some real BAD stories about people getting ripped of with these extended Warranties. On the other hand we met a guy in Florida with a 5er and no truck. He said Sams Club had his truck at a repair shop and he was VERY happy with the way Sams had handled his emergency.

Any ideas? Maybe just put $500.00 a month in a special account for a year and self insure. Hard to decide what to do. We do have AAA MH towing, so that's covered.

This is just me. I figure they sell these extended warrenties to make money. My money. Put an equal amount away each month what the payments cost, collect interest and maintain your motorhome to the highest standards.
I am a firm believer in good road service such as Good Sam or Coach Net.
You can read many, many posts about these so called warrenties giving you a hard time when it come time for them to shell out some dough, enough to make me very wary.
I am sure there are some that are happy though.

check out your AAA towing coverage. You will probably find it is very limited in miles it will tow you.
Do yourself a favor and get tome GS or CN towing coverage

I also have AAA on my autos but its not nearly enough for the places I go and possibility of having to be towed 100s of miles.
You ever traveled the lonliest road in America HWY 50? through Nev. & Utah

Thanks Charlie,
Love your "great wife" title. Way to go. Happy to say I have one also. 54 years and counting.
Checked on Good Sams, costs about $1,200.00 per year and seems to have a whole lot EXCLUDED. I think Sams is one of just a few to trust. But, which one to buy or none is the question for me. Looking like self insure is it.
Checked on my "AAA RV Plus" plan. We get a tow of 100 miles covered 8 times per year. 4 for me and 4 for the good wife. I'm OK with that. Covers tire change also.
Thanks for the reply and help,
Pine Tree
