Fan pulley zerk

02 3126E cat. In a Journey. How many pumps on a small tube grease gun to lube the zerk each regular oil change. Been doing 3 or 4 pumps but today had trouble with first 3 easy pumps not going into zerk after 5000 miles ( 1 year ) then on 4th pump with a little more pressure it went in and not all over the outside like the. First 3. Pumped 2 more full pumps and stopped. I think the bb ball was stuck or froze and finally opened up. Concerned about blowing out a seal
Your thoughts please. Thks rkl

I have been doing one shot, once a year, for the past 15 years with no issues (Yet).

That is with a regular full size grease gun (14oz cartridge) connected to a air compressor. The grease gun is from Harbor Freight (Central Pneumatic - Item#219 $19.99.)
