Fiberglass Insulation Under Dash

I purchased some fiberglass insulation to put under my dash to help quiet the engine noise and for heat/cold insulation. I am having second thoughts because of the possibilty of fiberglass debris getting loose inside the motor home.

Am I being paranoid or is this a reasonable caution? What would be a better material for insulation?

I insulated mine with a "Dynamat" type product that worked very well. It sticks very well and has stayed in place for 4 years. It reduces heat and noise a lot. I bought it at Jegs or Summit speed shop but several places sell it. On the engine cover itself I used a 3/4" foam poduct with a mylar heat reflecting material.

I should have mentioned that I am in the middle of a larger project and have already insulated the underside with Dynamat and some of the interior s[paces also. There are spots that are not suitable (access or too broken up a surface) for Dynamat and I am looking for something like fiberglass that comes in rolls that I can slip into the empty spaces under my dash. I have ruled out fiberglass as hazardous.

I believe you will not be happy if you use the fiberglass. Dynamat is good and another to check out is Thermo-tec which comes in various configurations including a spray-on glue to attach it. I used it on theunderside of the engine doghouse in a previous coach. It made a notable difference and never came loose.

Thanks for the info. I'm a rookie and have a couple of questions--
1. Where exactly did you install the "dynamat" inside the coach or underneath the coach?
2. How did you attach the 3/4" foam product product to the engine cover?
3. Where can these items be purchased?

fiberglass is just nasty stuff when it gets loose. Since you spent the money why not just wrap it in a plastic bag and tape the bag closed to keep the loose fibers from floating freely.

I returned the fiberglass and purchased some 3/4" closed cell foam from an industrial rubber supplier. I purchased some remnants that they had laying around for a greatly reduced price. I just slipped it into the spaces under the dash. Works quite well

Thanks for your info. There was a lot of valuable info!! I found everything except the part about the insulation. It was worth the tour because of other helpful hints. I will keep look thru the info and I might stumble across the info.
