We have a 40FD without the optional fireplace. Has anyone added one to an FD? Winnebago wanted $2,100 to do it at the factory. They are listed for around $650 in the catalog. I have measured several factory installed units, and can't really see a huge difference in the exterior cabintery. We currently use one of the electrical oil filled radiators, very quiet even heat, but it would be nice not to have to "put away" the unit every time we move. Since we are on the road more than just parking for extended periods of time, it can be a hassle. We even tried a stand alone fireplace unit which worked okay, but would prefer a permanently mounted unit as in the factory optional set-up. It's just hard to imagine the cabinetry facia is that much different.
