I've been looking at a 38 ft. Adventurer with a Ford V-10 engine. Can anyone who has had this motorhome give me some info relative to satisfaction with performance, mpg, handling, comfort, or any other info that you feel might be helpful in an assessment of this coach over a similar one with a vortec engine.

Thanks for your help.

I had a 35 Winn. chieftain with a f53 v 10 ford and now have a 35 bounder with the same engine. Total mileage between both has been 65,ooo . Average mpg, I would say is about 7, towing a car and generator on most of the time. Never had an engine problem with exception of a power steering pump leak.

I never knew if all that I did to the 2001 was needed as I put them on as soon as I got the mh. It might have been overkill.

On my 2001 Winn. ,I put front and rear stabilizers, bilstein shocks , as well as a banks power system. The new Bounder has 62 more h.p. and came with stabilizers and bilstein shocks as standard, so it would depend on what year your mh is.

Anyway, I would highly recommend the ford.

Good luck

Cliff

I had a 2009 Adventurer 38N that had the F53 and V-10. For a gas coach, it performed very well - you are going to slow down in mountaineous terrain but that is a gas coach. I averaged between 7 and 8 mpg. The ride of a gas coach can be somewhat bumpy if you are on a highway that is not smooth - something you just have to get used to in a gas coach.

We bought a used 37' Coachmen with the V-10 3 years ago, it had 60K miles and I was concerned about that. A friend that runs a fleet of trucks said he ran the V-10 in all his trucks, and he would put 400K miles on then and then replace the motor. The Coachmen now has 92K miles and NO problems with the motor. 6-8 MPG, with more 6 than 8.

I'm also happy with my V-10. I noticed before adding my upgrades that if driving 65-70 mph I'd average 6-7 mpg. If I slowed to 60-62 mpg it improved to 8-9 mpg. You can guess what speed I now drive at.

Yesterday I just installed the Gibson headers, muffler and new 3" piping. Today the Banks cold air intake went in. I noticed a nice performance improvement especially on the same hills that before required a downshift to maintain the same speed. I have no idea if the mileage improved any and may not know for some time due to now we will be towing the HHR.

Bottom line is the V-10 has enough power IMO.
