We purchased a 2004 Itasca Horizon 40AD this spring, and since then I have obtained four corner weights on three different occasions. The most recent was a month ago after visiting Gaffney and Camp Freightliner, having the RF airbag replaced and ride height readjusted. Prior to the new airbag, the RF was sagging down about 4", and the coach was listing noticeably to the right. All of this was corrected with the service, but the corner weights did not change. Mike Cody was very helpful, but other than shifting cargo right to left, ran out of suggestions. My weights are as follows(Full fuel, water and propane, empty gray and black, full average cargo and baggage, no people aboard):

LF 5500# RF 5560# Total Front 11,060# Front GAWR 12,000#

LR 8760# RR 10,060# Total Rear 18,820# Rear GAWR 20,000#

Per axle, I'm well under gross, but the 1300# discrepancy on the rear concerns me. The 40AD is a three slide model, on the right rear it has a lot of additional factory equipment compared to the left rear: the basement a/c, all 5 batteries, Splendide washer, refrigerator in rear of right front slide, and NO right bedroom slide. I have removed the heavy CRT TV and steel bracket in the RR bedroom. All of this is from the factory, so other than shifting cargo, I don't see any other options. I run all tire pressures the on rear axle at 95#, correct for the higher weight on the RR(10,060#), and otherwise i don't worry about it. Do you other 40AD drivers see a similar weight discrepancy with your coaches? I assume your same model coach would have the same discrepancy, as the imbalance seems to be by Winnebago's design. Any comments, suggestions, advice?

We have a 2004 Vectra 40AD. I haven't been able to find a place that can do individual corners yet, just front axle and rear axle. My weights are about the same as yours. I'm going to add this thread to my list of threads to follow. I can't see how anything could be done since the major weight items on our coach are non-movable. It handles very well so I'm not going to worry about it but I'll be interested if someone has any ideas.

Good luck fellow 2004 40AD owner!!

Find a CAT scales. Most have 3 separate pads on their scales, for weighing front and rear. Most have aprons on both sides of the pads adequate to pull one side of the coach off of the pads. Weigh the entire coach, then back off the scales, and pull only one side back on the scales, and ask for a reweigh(usually only $1.) and then a little subtraction will give you all four corner weights.

Kent.
This may or may not be an issue to consider and it is worth asking the question at CAT scales headquarters but it has been told to me on a few occasions by people that should know that weighing the Motorhome as you described may be a reason for the strange readings you are getting.

I was told that the vehicle must me roughly centered on the scale in order to get accurate readings. If you are putting the one side on the apron the other side would not be centered on the platform and that may screw with the readings. When I weighed my MH, I was able to find a scale where I could place the wheel in the center of the platform and I did get pretty accurate readings as I weighed all four corners and each axle. The math worked out.

Just my 2 cents.

Pete

I have a 2006 Ellipse 40FD, and the four-corner weights showed the RR to be almost 700 pounds heavier than the LR, but still (just) under the 20K LB axle limit. I think this is just the way most DPs are; there was a thread on the Tiffin forum about how Phaetons were leaving the factory over gross weight on the RR. With the batteries, W/D, and A/C all located in the same place, there's not much you can do. BTW, if you're in Forest City, the local grain elevator leaves the scales on after closing and you can do a 4-corner weigh.
