Front Door Window Screen - Won't Retract

My pull-down screen on the front door window used to have such a strong retract spring that you have to hook the bottom on a metal lip to keep it extended. Lately, it has lost tension and now it doesn't want to retract at all. Is there an adjustment that can be made or something I can do to fix it?

Hi Lakejumper,

I took mine down to fix it. There are 4 screws hidden under little white caps, as I recall.

Once down, it is possible to wind the shade up a few turns, thus tightening up the spring a little.

I hope this works!

Dan, Thank you for your response and suggestion. I will remove it and try your solution.

Well, I finally removed the blind and was able to wind the spring tension tighter. At first it didn’t help. I realized that the spring rod inside of the spool was sticking. I squirted a couple of drops of WD-40 and it works like it’s brand new! It was a quick and easy repair and saved me from buying a new one. Now I’m inspired to adjust my MCD shades as they are retracting slowly.
Thank you Dan for the tip!
