Front mask scratch fix

Several months ago I was approched by a detaling company working at a camp ground to wash and wax my '09 Tour. Detaling is usually something I do myself but the price was too good to pass up and they did a beautiful job on the next door neighbor so I had them do it. The next day in the right light I discovered that the front mask was badly scratched in a swirling pattern and it appeared that the buffing pad they used was either too course or too dirty and it scratched so badly you could barely feel it with a finger nail.

Over the past several months I have tried everything to remove the scratches including Bestop vinyl window cleaner and Plexus but nothing worked. 3M stated that the vinyl was apparantly burned and needed replacement. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I tried NuFinish Scratch Doctor even though the bottle stated not to use on vinyl. The Scratch Doctor removed 90% of the swirls and scratches and although it does not look like it did new, the mask looks as good as any 4 year old I have seen. Very pleased with the results and especially pleased that I did not have to replace the mask at $1500.

No gaurantees to anyone but if you have the same issue, it is worth the try before spending the money to replace the mask.

Thanks for the post. I had heard of anyone being able to do much to deal with film scratches but this gives some hope.
