In the middle of the night, we discovered that the furnace stopped working. The thermostat was blank. The only thing that worked was the AC fan would come in when I switched to fan only.
I got up this morning to try to troubleshoot the problem and the heat came on as soon as I turned it on.
With a blank temperature screen on the thermostat, I am thinking that maybe the thermostat shut down and wouldn't let the furnace start.
Has anyone had any experience with a situation like this? If so, what was the problem and how did you fix it?

Strange, but it could be that the circuit board for the thermostat is acting up.

What was the temp when it shut down? When it reaches a certain temp, the electric heat will go off and it should automatically switch over to gas ( mine doesn't tho) I need to figure that one out myself.

WHen my Colemand/TrueAir thermostat went blank, the only fix was a new thermostat.

I think if your house batteries get extremely low your thermostat will shut down ...

mrschwarz, if the thermostat did come back on and operate properly, you may have a bad connection at any point in the 12 volt control circuit. Intermitant problems are hard to troubleshoot due to the fact that unless the problem is current everything will check good.
Please give us as much information as you can. We will need to know the voltage source you are connected to, start up temperature inside coach, temerature setting on thermostat, outside temperature at start up and the temps again at time the furnace does not come on. Thanks.

The voltage source was the 12-volt system, which was connected to the house batteries and 12-volt converter at the time. The outside temperature was about 20? at the time. The inside temperature was 50? and the thermostat was set to 65?.
I am not quite sure what you mean by startup temperature, other than it was about 67? when we went to bed.

You can certainly change out the t'stat to see if it correts the problem; it is not too expensive and is worth the try. IF however it does not fix the problem, I would recommend you have a qualified service center take it form here. You may even have some dirty DC coming from charger. Some control boards do not like dirty DC and will not function properly with it. Give it clean DC power and it works fine. Good luck and keeps us posted.

As long as it's not too expensive, I'm going to try replacing the thermostat.

I lost both electric furnace and propane heat. Turns out the electrical wires at bottom of electrical heater came loose and thermo on propane sensor gave out at same time.
