If your model has a heat pump, the thermostat should read AC-Off-Gas Heat-Elec Heat.

On my Dometic t'stat setting a desired temp in excess of 5 degrees above current indoor temp...will activate the propane furnace first in order to bring coach temp up quickly to your comfort level. This occurs even if you select the "electric" heat pump operation. Once your set temp is reached, furnace goes Off and heat pump resumes after a 3-minute delay.

If I want to save propane & use electric Heat Pump Unit only, I have to set t'stat for 4 degree maximum rise, let it run & incrementally reset 4 degree rise. This way, furnace function is not called into play by the t'stat controller.

Be aware that heat pump is only effective at outdoor temps down to mid-40's. Lower outside temps, you have to use furnace; as HP cannot find an available heat difference to operate.
