G4 LED Bi-Pin bulb

Has anyone found a G4 LED bi-pin 12v bulb that will replace the Halogen bulbs in my puck lights. My 2005 Itasca Horizon uses 14 puck lights on the ceiling or under cabinet. I tried a few LED replacements and all were too large.

I just bought these to replace in my Tiffin. But I already had LED but a couple failed. These are a little smaller than the OEM ones so fit perfectly. When I replaced a bunch of mine, I had to clip about 1/4" off of all the pins.

I have 10 'puck' lights in the ceiling (8 in the main cabin and 2 in the bedroom) using 10W halogen bulbs. I decided to use 'warm white' bulbs for these instead of the 'white' I used for the fluorescents. I replaced all of them with something like the following:

  1. 10 G4 Warm White 12 LED 5050 SMD Spot Light Lamp Bulb
These are unregulated but do have a bridge rectifier on them, so they aren't polarized (without this you might need to switch the wires around in the fixture to match the polarity of the LED bulb). These bulbs cost a little less than $0.50 each. Regulated versions are available, but cost considerably more--I decided to see how these work out. If I end up with LEDs dying I might consider switching to the regulated versions.

The first picture shows a couple of the reflectors that need to be removed from the fixtures. They just snap in with two legs and come out quite easily with a little sideways pressure on one of the legs.

The second picture show the LED bulb in place. I had to clip a little off the two leads on the LED bulb because they were a bit long. With the original reflector gone the socket is no longer held rigidly in place, but that's not really a problem because the LED can just lie flat on the lens.

The third picture shows the lens in place.

Your method looks like to solution to my problem. I tried the same lamp you are using and returned it because it was too big. Removing the reflector would certainly do the trick. I just tied to remove the reflector but I couldn't get it to budge. Can you give me some help with the reflector removal?

If you look at my earlier picture you'll see that there are two legs with a little nub on the end that hold it in place. The legs are on the two sides 90deg from where the bulb plugs in. A small screwdriver gently inserted next to the legs should allow you to pop them out fairly easily.

Chris,
Worked perfectly. Just as you said, a little nudge and out it came. Thanks so very much for your help.
About an hour before I read your post, I sent the lamps that bought from Amazon back because they didn't fit. Now with this fix, I'll reorder them.

My reflectors were a metal casting and riveted in to the plastic back plate. I also had to clip the pins a little bit. I have some 60 of those lights so it took a while to do.
