Generator Shuts Off

I have a 2003 32 ft. Brave

It seems my generator either will not start or will shutoff when my gasoline tank gets down to around 1/4 full.

Is this typical? Normal? Planned?

I've had it in for service on the generator. They find nothing wrong. But I may have had a full tank when I have the generator checked out and serviced.

I've come by this 1/4 gas tank idea by general observation during my travels.

Any thoughts or bits of knowledge?

Jim

The fuel line for the generator is higher then the pickup for the engine. It's designed leave about 1/4 tank of fuel for the engine to run on so you're not stranded out of fuel.

Planned - so the generator won't consume all your fuel and leave you stranded....

As you have read, normal.

One caveat I can add. I dropped my tank in my '04. The generator pickup tube has an approximately 3" piece of rubber hose on the bottom of it. Mine was mis-installed such that the rubber hose was on top of some internal baffling. Didn't make a big difference, but my stopped picking up gas closer to 1/3 tank that the 1/4 it is supposed to.

RARE chance you have the same issue, and it's really not worth dropping the tank to fix it. But if you are running out higher than 1/4, it may explain it.
