My generator would not start from the inside switches, but does start from the outside switch.

When trying from the inside switch there was no sound at all, generator did not crank.

What should I check?

Thanks,

Ron

Check the plug/socket from the gen set control wiring harness to where ever your start/stop switch is located.

On our Quiet Diesel 7.5, the connector is fairly close to the gen set.

You could also have a bad switch. You can also remove the start/stop switch and manually simulate starting the gen set by shorting the appropriate wires on the rear of the switch.

Does yours have a switch on the dash also? If neither switch works it must be in the harness, if one does it must be the other switch or it's wiring.

Thanks for the replies.

I forgot to mention that once the generator was started from the outside switch, the inside switches did work to start and stop the generator.

You didn't tell us what make/brand but I know for sure that Onan uses a ground to start or stop them.

Quick way to tell if you are missing a battery positive is to look at the hour totalizer meter, if its running, you but B+, then look for a bad ground.

Sounds to me like a low battery which caused a relay to fail to close the circuit to start the genset ... the switch did not work before the battery was charged a little ... worked after it did ...

Does the switch on the generator bypass the relay for the inside switches?
