Had to replace my windshields on my 2003 Journey DL. They had served well but time was not on their side. Glass guy got out with both pieces of glass and discovered the dreaded "Winnebago rust" in the windshield frame. I was disappointed but not surprised this was present.

I was referred to a body shop only 1/4 mile from where I store my rig. It's a real thrill to drive with NO windshield. No glare, no smears, but watch out for the bugs in the teeth .

Attached are pics of the before and after. Cost me $440 for sandblasting and the coating to abate the rust. (I forget what he called it...something 101 or other) but it's designed specifically for rust.

New windshield gets installed tomorrow morning. Hopefully, we can close this chapter on the good ole Winne.

Here's my 2008 35L Winne rust around the bay doors. These were taken after I lightly scraped the loose paint off. Some areas flaked off as big as your hand. Winne agreed to have my dealer repaint. The dealer took the area down to shine metal, applied a rust inhibitor, then primer and painted. Looks like new now. This motorhome has never been driven in salt.

I have had both windshield rust and front compartment bay door rust on my 2008 Winnie. I scraped, sanded, primed, and painted with rust inhibitor paint on the driver side. When the passenger side started displaying I took it to the dealer and Winnie paid for it. The windshield was still under warranty and the coach was less than 2 years old. It was repaired under warranty. For some reason the bay doors never got primed at the factory, so watch for further developments. I really thought that these coaches were "dipped."

I have the same rust problems on my 2005 Horizon. Winnie did not forget to prime prior to painting, they just don't prime the metal at all prior to painting.
This has been going on a long time and it has manifested it self across the various models. Detaching body panels is another problem due to not priming the metal. I am working on removing rust for the 3rd time but now am treating it with Ospho then priming and then repainting.

No salty roads for me either at any time not even for delivery and I had the coach undercoated by Winnie. The quality of work on these coaches often times reminds me of the quality of the cars in the 70's and 80's. and that did not end well.

I took a factory tour last fall and watched what appeared to be a rather comprehensive multiple prep and dip of the metal on the coaches. Apparently, they need to review this process. My coach had some rust around compartments and I suspect I will chasing that for as long as I own the coach.

I also had the dreaded windshield rust which cracked the passenger glass. New glass, labor for the glass R&R and rust removal by a body shop totaled $1,000. I am sure the driver's side will go soon.
