Gray water tank reading wrong

My rig is a 2005 Journey, 36G. I'm thinking my sensors are dirty because, after draining my gray water tank, (sucessfully) I still get a 2/3 full reading off my panel. I know this is an age-old problem, not only with Winnies, but with all MH's. Anybody have a solution? Maybe some super cleaner I can put in my tank? Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions.

Welcome to the club. You're right about it being an age old problem. I think the solution that's gotten a lot of support is flushing the tanks.... filling them with fresh water.... adding a enzyme septic tank cleaner... and let it sit for a couple of weeks if possible.

I believe that your rig has the TruLevel sensors. They are pretty reliable.

I converted mine to the TruLevel about 6 years ago, and had no problems until about 3 weeks ago. I finally figured out that the bad reading was caused by one of my fluorescent ceiling lights (the rf cap is going bad).

Interestingly enough, that lamp also caused the fan to remain running indefinitely after the heat pump had cycled off. All was normal when using the AC.

I guess that what I am trying to say is "see if the bad reading remains with anything that can cause interference turned off".

We have found that our grey sensors will stop working when we are parked for a while. The next time we move we put a couple gallons of water and some Pine Sol, diswasher detergent, laundry detergent, basically whatever is handy and drive to our next location. That seems to clean the sensors in the grey so they start working again for a while.

I have on occasion used Pine Sol in my black water tank, just as a cleaner. I suppose it's worth a try in my gray tank as well. Thanks for the tip.

I too have a 2005 Journey 36G. I don't understand how the sensors could get dirty. I thought the Tru Level sensors are on the outside of the tank, so how could stuff inside the tank be a problem?

On both the old style in the tank sensors and the newer no-contact sensors, the problem is not with dirty sensors but rather with gunked up tank walls that fool both systems.
Anything that will clean the tank walls will help if it removes the crud.

I checked, and you're right, there are no in-tank sensors. Dang, now I've got to start thinking again.
Since I read your response, I checked out what Clay had to say, and that, too, makes sense. Plus, if it works, it will save me some bucks. Thanks for your input -- makes me do a little research that I otherwise wouldn't have done.
