We have a '03 Journey DL with a Cat 3126. The engine manual indicates that there is a grease fitting on the fan hub that should get it's occasional feeding of grease. I've looked from the bottom and do not see it. I know it's there somewhere. Comments, ideas, advice please.

Gunny...it is located on top of the housing between the fan pulley and the block....Hard to see but you can see if if you lean way into the engine cover hole...
Aalso, they mounted the fitting very tight between the pulley and the block...I had to file down a regular grease filler end to fit on it...some have pulled the fitting out and attached brass fittings to the hole and led several rubber grease lines to a spot underneath or behind where they can lube it from outside.....
Also, just one pump is necessary, more can blow the seals I am told...good luck....RKL

Gunny, on my 03 there is NOT a fitting. I had a Freightliner dealer look for it , I furnished him with a copy of a thread from this forum , and it was his report that my rig did not have one. Suggest you might contact Freightliner direct to see if your rig has one..Good and Safe Miles

I would recommend you check with Caterpillar. There is an engine serial number cut off for when they stopped useing a grease fitting and went to sealed bearing. You can call 877-777-3126 and give them your engine serial number and they can tell you if your engine came with or without grease fitting.

Pulled the sheets off the bed and drug the mattress off of the pedestal. Raised the platform, took out the 3 screws and then the rear engine cover. Now I'm no where as skinny as I once was but there just ain't no way I could wedge my big fat butt under there far enough to visually see where the fan hub grease fitting would be. Did get the engine serial number and guess I'll be having a word with Cat as to if it does or does not have this fitting. Will have to probably tear the back of the MH off to get to it if it does. If not, guess I'll just be happy!
Sure was dirty under there. Wife requested I take a shower and get clean before proceeding beyond replacing the engine cover.

I listed the wrong number for Cat. It should be 877-777-3126. Sorry.

Gunny
Did you ever find your grease fitting?
If you did how did you get to it?
I am with you I cannot get in there to see where the fitting is. I cannot get to it from the side either. The only way I can see to get to it is take the whole bed platform off.
According to my serial # mine does have the zerk fitting.

I have an '03 3126 with engine number HEP19350. There is a serial number cut-off where a sealed bearing was used and I have one of those engines. Check the CAT website at the link below and click on 3126 engine. Hope this helps.

I had my valves adjusted at the local CAT truck center and asked them to grease the fan hub. I saw the mechanic take a grease gun into the rig and come out about 5 minutes later. I asked him if he had trouble getting to the fitting and he just said it wasn't too bad. However, he was about 25 years old and fairly slim.
