First I have a 07 36G Journey. The driver's side headlight went out so I figured a quick replacement
. Much to my dismay it wasn't.
The designer of the headlight bracket must have come from a competitor and wanted his old job back.
Any way I did a search on this site and found a couple of responses which were hard to believe but again as usual, they were right.
The normal problem is there is a mounting bracket plate directly behind the low beam lamp assemble, so it limits the working room. To get the lamp out you have to turn the lamp socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise. You can get your finger tips to it but getting it to turn is difficult. I used channel lock pliers which worked well for grabbing the socket and starting the twist. ounce I had it 1/4 turn with a little finesse I was able to dislodge the socket from the lamp assembly. Now to get the socket and bulb out..... NOPE!!! Not enough room!!!
Looking at other posts it was recommended you pry the light assemble out to get the lamp socket out.
I was able to get a 3/4 inch piece of copper pipe wedged between the high beam lamp unit and the main mounting plate on the right side of the assembly. Don't over do it as you may break the plastic fixture. It was only like 1/8 inch but wow it was just enough to remove the lamp and socket.
Light assembly is from a 199? (7 - 8 or 9) Pontiac. Bulb is a Philips HB4 12V 51W (E1 22T) second line 9006 12V 55W DOT. Now we will go get the replacement lamp from an auto store and TRY TO PUT IT BACK IN.
