F.Y.I. Have a broken socket for the turn signal, passenger side. Unusual problem with an unusual fix! After failing to find a replacement socket anywhere, and being told by my local Winnebago service that the fix was to purchase new headlight assembly for approx. $190.00, I called Winnebago Parts directly and after explaining that my only problem was one socket in the assembly they informed me that they kept an inventory of assemblies that had defects such as broken tabs. Purchased one of these for $50.00. Now have my turn signal repaired and two spare sockets for the future.

That may very well have been the only solution in your case, depending on what you have. But many light sockets by themselves are fairly standard as a lot of different fixtures use the same bulbs, so have similar sockets. Several years ago I replaced a rusted socket in a car I had ...couldn't get the right fixture but got a different salvage yard fixture that used the same bulb and ripped just the socket out of it. Then about a year ago one of our reading light sockets in the motorhome fell apart. When I went looking for a new fixture or similar socket at an rv parts store in San Antonio, the parts guy showed me that all I really needed to fix it was a "tail lamp socket pigtail", which he had in stock for $3.56.

Exactly...many times I'll walk the auto parts store-hardware etc...looking for creative solution fix..amazing sometimes what the old brain can come upwith to beat the rip offs.

Had the upper side of my rig fiberglass deeply gashed by service center ($1600). Have their settlement..now awaiting warmer weather for body repair shop. Hate to travel with hole in fiberglass side of rig. Ended up temp covering/sealing hole with metal grey single electric outlet cover ($1.97)..now...what to say to folks who ask.."what's that outlet for?"

Tell 'em they aren't supposed to notice the outlet, but that your rig is a top secret experimental hybrid RV, and that is where you plug in to recharge the batteries that power the electric engine.
