Help replacing XRV tires, what have you used?

Did a search but didn't find anything recent. Our 6 year Michelin 255-80 22.5 are checking so we need to replace the steer tires.

What have you used? Michelin, Yokohomas, Sumitomo, Goodyear ? Thx

Beabop, I've stayed the course with the Michelin XRV.

In 2006, with the help of others on this site, I replace the tires on my 36' 2002 Journey with the G-670 Goodyears size 275/70/22.5. Perfect fit and great ride. Have the 670's on the Sunstar--like the tires.

Likewise I have stayed with the xrv tires. On set two and not one problem. Will buy them next time I need tires.

255/80R22.5 XZE’s have deeper tread, are stiffer for better handling and have extra carbon for better weathering, among many other benefits.

I had the 255 XRV’s replaced with XZE 275/80R22.5 on our Journey and the difference was amazing. Knock on wood, I had the CAT Pocket Tech to recalibrate the speedometer since it lowered the engine RPM just a little (a good thing). Freightliner or CAT can make the change for you. Just calculate the precise error for them (use a GPS before and after).

The 04 Horizon comes from the factory with XZE 275/80R22.5. After 90,000 miles, I have only replaced two of them at 87,000 miles because of unusual ware that occurred in the beginning due to a front end misalignment. The other four have at least another 50,000 miles left on them.

I went to Yokahama tires to get away from the Michlins sidewall checking and cracking, even though my Michlins were only six years old. My nerves couldn't take it any more. I should also add that I use my Motorhome at least once a month and am on the road about four months a year. When I'm not on the road it's in a garage. The only thing I could do to take better care of my tires was to take them to bed with me, but then I would be cracked !!!
I use a TPMS and always keep the tires at the proper pressure which I think has kept me from ever having a tire failure or problem.

I also have the GY G670's on my rig. Put them on in 2005 and they still look and perform fine (no checking). I will replace them at 7 years regardless. Next time I will take a serious look at Bridgestones if the G670's seem too pricey.

I like MrTransistor replaced my XRVs with XZEs. I have been very happy with the change. My XRVs did not have any cracking but my coach is garaged when not in use.

Like Driver and others, I stayed with XRV's when I replaced the tires on my 2004 Journey last year. The OEM XRV's had 45K miles, great tread, but were showing radial cracking. After reading about the "rivering" wear on Goodyears mounted on the steer axle, I decided to stay with Michelin which now have 12K miles and work well for my coach.

A few weeks ago I changed out my XRVs for Bridgestone 265x75x22.5 (R250F). The size is almost identical so speedo reads the same. The ride so far is excellant, although I have only gone a a little over a thousand miles with them. My XRVs were 4 yrs old with very good tread but with the sidewall cracking. I was looking at the Toyos also, which several tire people highly recommended, but went with the Bridgestone because the size was a slightly better fit. I am well pleased.

It's strange the thread discussions and concerns about tires and things related are possibly the most common of all. What is this showing us? Tires are a weak link in mobility? Do Semi Tractor-Trailers have the same issues? Similar?

Are they so overly tied up with: tire monitoring, pressures, blowouts, brand, balance, sidewall cracking, etc? Is it due to the extra focus on the thing that is between the road and the vehicle at 75 mph? Are we over re-acting? Is there a real crisis?

Batman--They are important to me! I don't think a truck driver cares too much about ride plus he wears them out a lot faster that we do. I know I have a big investment under me and want as much safety and comfort as I can afford. Blowouts are just no fun in a motor home. No crisis--just being smart.
