Help-Stuck Steps

My steps failed in the extended position. There is power to the sensor switch..the under amber light comes on and off with door movement. Recycle step on-off no change. Motor on no change. I suspect a fuse. Any help here appreciated. Which fuse to check? 2006 Itasca model 35U.

My steps stuck in the retracted position so getting to the motor and controller required that I had to pull the step actuator arm pin to get to everything. Everything checked out as yours did. I removed the 3 10mm bolts that hold the motor to the gear housing (make sure you support the steps and disconnect the motor power wire before doing this)and I could feel the bind in the motor release. I reinstalled everything and they have been working great.

You can also go to Kwikee's web site and download the training manual for there steps and it has an excellent troubleshooting guide in it.

How long has it been since you lubricated all the joints in your steps?

If you have not been moving your steps in and out it may just need some lubricaition ... Kwikee lube is great stuff ... or you can try lithium spray grease ....

Excellent..thanks..hope someone can point me to the 6 amp fuse mentioned in the Op manual ..

On my MH the power is supplied to the step through a 6 amp DC circuit breaker that is located in the "chassis electrical box". This box has a cover over it that can be removed by turning the two T-shaped handles counterclockwise. The breakers are round buttons that are reset by simply pushing them in. Since our rigs are different models, I can't tell you where your box is. But I hope this helps.

I recently had a second time problem with the steps being stuck. I lubricated with WD-40 and having just downloaded the manual have found that is not the proper lubricant to use.I am grateful and want to thank ROMAD for the linc to the Quickie steps. It is nice to have the manufacturers specs to inform where/what to lube and the proper lube to use. Once again it shows how useful this site is. thanks again.

Fix Update: Thanks to all for help and Kwikee reference documents.

I determined my cam stops were out of adjustment and that led to motor gear to motor table gear jam. Using Kwikee Owners Manual, I disassembled to unjam and relube. I readjusted four cam stops as per manual. All reassembled and working great. Note the following WARNING in the manual. It is true!

"WARNING: When the cam stops are out of
adjustment, the step may feel loose or 'mushy'
when stepped on. If the cam stops are not
properly adjusted the step may not extend fully
to the locked-out position. Using a step
with loose or out of adjustment cam stops
may cause damage to the motor assembly and/or
the drive linkage."

Another recommendation...don't step on partially extended steps. Cam stop support is not adequately provided and full stress is put on motor gear...motor table gear..and actuator arm link.
